Flexible Spending Account Substantiation Deadline

Did you have a health and/or dependent care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) through WageWorks (MSU’s FSA vendor) for the 2018 plan year? If yes, please note the deadline to submit receipts to substantiate 2018 claims is April 30, 2019. If you have unsubstantiated claims after April 30, this will result in the reclassification of the funds reimbursed as taxable income.

How Do I Know if I Need to Substantiate a Claim?
You have two options to manage your WageWorks account and determine if you need to substantiate any claims:

  1. EASIEST OPTION: Download the WageWorks EZ Receipts app and login to your WageWorks account to check your claims activity and reimbursement history. If you still need to submit receipts to substantiate 2018 claims, you’ll be able to find out here.
  2. Alternatively, visit the WageWorks website and login to your account. From the dashboard, navigate to the Claims & Activity section to review and determine if you need to submit receipts to substantiate any 2018 claims.

How Do I Substantiate a Claim?
To substantiate a claim, you will need to obtain a receipt that contains the following five pieces of information: patient’s name, provider’s name, date of service, type of service, and cost.

You have three options to substantiate a claim:

  1. EASIEST OPTION: Use your phone to snap a photo of your receipt and upload it using the WageWorks EZ Receipts app .
  2. Alternatively, visit the WageWorks website and login to your account. Click the Submit Receipt or Claim button to upload a receipt.
  3. Most participants use one of the two electronic options above to substantiate their claims for faster service and convenience. If you prefer to submit a claim via fax or mail, use the following forms:
