MSU Applicant Page (MAP) FAQs

What if I forgot my password?
After choosing "Login" from the navigation bar on the left, click on the "I forgot my password" link in the login dialog box. You will be prompted to provide your user name and to respond to the question you set up in your password retrieval screen. After you respond correctly to that question, your password will be reset to your username and you will be required to change it after logging in the first time.

Are background checks performed for all new employees?
Yes. A criminal background check is done, and in some cases, a hiring department may conduct further background checks.

What if I have already created an application?
If you have already created an application in MAP, and wish to update your information, login using your user name and password and click on the "manage applications" option on the left side of the screen.

I am not a U.S. citizen, what type of Visa do I need in order to work at MSU?
For information regarding appropriate visa/status options, contact MSU's Office of International Students and Scholars.

Does MSU administer drug testing?
Some positions may require drug testing prior to hire. For more details, refer to MSU's policy on Alcohol and Controlled Substances.

How do I print my application?
You can choose to view your application and print it from that window. It is not necessary for you to print an application. You just need to submit your application by saving it and clicking "confirm" on the final page.

How can check the status I of my application?
Login using your username and password, click on "Application Status." If you have applied for vacancies, they will be listed.

How will my job application be evaluated?
When you apply for a position, your application and credentials will be evaluated. If union bargaining agreements allow and you meet the minimum requirements for the position, your credentials will be forwarded to the hiring department. If applicable, your qualifications, along with those of other applicants will be compared against the skills / qualifications needed for the position.

How do I know you received my information?
You will receive a confirmation message on the screen immediately after you apply for a specific position. Also, you may check your application status at any time simply by logging into MAP.

How long should I expect to wait to hear back once I've submitted my application on-line?
It will depend on the hiring department's timelines. You may check your application status at any time simply by logging into MAP.

How long does my application remain active in the system?
Your application will remain active in the system indefinitely. We will keep your application on file even if you no longer wish to apply for positions. If you decide in the future you would like to apply for positions once again, your application information will be saved in the system, ready for you to use or you can update it as necessary.

How are job interviews arranged?
The hiring department will contact you if you have been selected for an interview.

I submitted my application but forgot to include some necessary information. Can I correct this?
If you have already submitted your application (and any attachments such as a resume) and you need to make some changes that are applicable for a specific position that you have applied for, you will need to contact MSU Human Resources to make changes. You can call us at 517-353-4434 or email SolutionsCenter@hr.msu.edu.

How do I withdraw my application?
If your credentials have already been forwarded to the hiring department, you will need to contact MSU Human Resources to withdraw your application.  If you withdraw your application, you will NOT be able to apply for the same position again.
