Spring Student Employment Information

The first day of spring classes is January 8, 2018. All student employees who have graduated, or those not enrolled for the spring semester, must be terminated no later than Sunday, February 4, 2018. All students may begin working up to 40 hours per week starting the week of finals on Sunday, December 10, 2017 through Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Holiday Rules for Reporting Time and Attendance

You probably have staff taking time off over the holiday period. Before they leave, make sure you have the correct information for reporting time and attendance for benefit eligible support staff, including hourly, CT and salary employees. Find these rules, along with the absence and attendance codes, on the HR website.

Holiday Schedule for Support Staff Job Postings

Staffing requests for the Support Staff Position Vacancy Notice are due to Human Resources by noon every Friday via the HR/Payroll Inbox in the EBS Portal. The Friday posting deadline is sometimes amended as a result of the MSU Holiday Schedule. Please view the holiday posting schedule that impacts job postings for December and January.

Hiring Students? View Updates to the Student Handbook

If you employ student employees, there are a few new clarifications concerning student time records to the "Placing a Student on Payroll" section of the Student Handbook.

  • In the event that a time record is used in an electronic manner, the use of the msu.edu email address will be required as the signature authority for the transaction.
  • The records are to be maintained at least three years at the departmental level.
