Microsoft Internet Explorer: Required Settings
The information below is relevant for the Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) Portal and the HR and Payroll functions within the portal. For information on compatibility with other EBS Systems, such as Finance and Business Intelligence, see the Compatibility Matrix.
Many applications require additional settings on the browser to work properly. See detailed instructions below.
- Local Intranet
- Default Browser
- Allow Pop-Ups
- Allow Caching
- Allow Font Download
- Adobe Reader
In order to optimize performance, the EBS Portal must be listed in the proper security zone.
Tools> Internet Options> Security> Local intranet>sites> advanced> add https://secportal.ebsp.msu.edu
The default browser should be Internet Explorer or Firefox ESR. New windows opened from a different browser use the default browser, which can cause a problem if the default browser is not supported for that application.
Start> Control Panel> Default Programs> Set your Default Programs
Many links will open a new window. Make sure that the browser allows for pop-ups.
Tools> Pop-Up Blocker> Pop-Up Blocker Settings> *.ebsp.msu.edu> Add
Browsers should be set to have English as the first language. Items may not display properly on screen if this is set to some other language.
Tools> Internet Options> General> Languages> English [EN-US] first
Having the zoom on the screen set to anything other than 100% can result in improper display of the screen, including a flickering screen. For most browsers, <control> 0 (zero) resets the zoom to 100%. Here are direction specific to Internet Explorer.
View> Zoom> 100%
Add-ins can prevent items from properly displaying in browser windows. Below are directions for disabling browser add-ins.
Tools> Manage Add-ons> Toolbars and Extensions> Disable
Tools> ActiveX Filtering (unchecked)
If you disallow caching, the EBS Portal cannot use the browser file system, and it will appear to the EBS Portal as though you are using Private Browsing. This will prevent the uploading of attachments.
- Under the "Internet options" tab "General" -> look under the section "Browsing history" and choose the button "Settings"
- Then in the pop-up, look for the tab "caches and databases".
- Make sure the checkbox "Allow website caches and databases" is selected.
Icons will not show unless the browser allows the font to be downloaded.
Tool > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom level... >
under 'Downloads' make sure "Font Download' = Enable
Adobe Reader must be installed after Acrobat Professional if the machine has both. Additionally Adobe Reader must be same or higher version that Acrobat Professional.
