Graduate assistant health insurance waiver

As a graduate assistant, you will automatically be enrolled in the MSU Graduate Assistant Health Insurance Plan and the insurance premium will be paid by MSU. If you would like to waive coverage, you must demonstrate you have comparable coverage.

Access the waiver system at yourstudenthealthplan.com, choose Michigan State University from the school dropdown and choose your plan type according to your student class (domestic, international or graduate assistant). Click "view your plan" and then click on "Log into your Account" in the HELPFUL QUICK LINKS section.  Login information will be provided by Blue Water via email.  If you do not have your login information, please contact Blue Water at: SHIP-enrollment@bluewaterbenefitsadmin.com or (947) 941-1388.  Learn more about how to waive coverage.

In order to waive the MSU Graduate Assistant Health Insurance Plan, your coverage must meet minimum criteria to receive approval:

  • Does your plan cover inpatient hospital services?
  • Does your plan cover outpatient hospital services?
  • Does your plan provide coverage for the waiver period requested?

  • Fall/Annual: July 6 – September 30
