Cariloop FAQs
When you find you rself in a situation that in cludes caring for a spouse, raising children, helping aging parents, or taking care of yourself, caregiving can take many forms. Benefit-eligible faculty and staff now have access to Cariloop©, a new caregiving benefit option provided by Michigan State University.

Frequently Asked Questions
Cariloop is a brand-new caregiving benefit available to benefits-eligible employees effective November 1, 2025. This benefit includes 30 days of personalized support from licensed coaches through everyday caregiving tasks and complex challenges, with empathy, skill, and speed (with the option to extend beyond 30 days). It also includes helpful caregiving tools and resources, as well as access to UrbanSitter’s network of trusted care providers — all within Cariloop's Caregiver Support Platform . Please note that while access to the provider list is included, the caregiving services themselves are not free of charge and are paid directly by the user.
Cariloop is available to all regular faculty and support staff benefits-eligible employees effective November 1, 2025.
As part of Michigan State University’s commitment to helping employees on their caregiving journey, this benefit is provided at no cost to MSU employees. If an employee would like to receive professional coaching beyond the 30 continuous days provided, employees have the option to extend the coaching for $249/month.
To access the Cariloop benefit, visit www.cariloop.com/register and click 'Get Started.' Follow the prompts and sign up with your work email. (You can add a personal email or phone later.) Cariloop will require you to confirm your email prior to activating your account. You will receive a 6-digit code to your work email, and that code will be utilized to finish activating your account.
This benefit includes professional coaching (30 days of continuous support annually with the option to extend), caregiving tools, a trusted network of providers, and access to UrbanSitter — all within Cariloop's Caregiver Support Platform.
Once activated, you have access to the extensive features of the Caregiver Support Platform®, where you can:
- Explore free tools and resources, including notes, medication tracker, community channels to connect with like-minded individuals, and more.
- Open a case and connect with a Care Coach for hands-on guidance and support, to answer any questions you have for any adult, child, or educational care need (30 continuous days annually + option to extend service). This could include family planning options, navigating a new health diagnosis, elder care options, veteran support, etc.
- Browse articles and guides written by Cariloop Coaches designed to support you through every stage of your journey.
- Access UrbanSitter, a trusted care solution, to help you find and book vetted caregivers when you need extra support.
Please note that while access to the provider list is included, the caregiving services themselves are not free of charge and are paid directly by the user.
Support can be utilized for anyone you consider family, anywhere in the US. This could include individuals living in your household, an extended family member, friend, neighbor, etc.
This benefit includes 30 days of continuous professional coaching support annually on January 1. Unused days do not carry over to the next year; however, you will receive a new 30 days of continuous professional coaching at the start of the year.

Cariloop is not a direct replacement for the previous Care.com or subsidized backup childcare through Kennedy Care. Cariloop include a similar service to Care.com through UrbanSitter to identify options for caregiving, household assistance , pet sitting, etc. Cariloop does not include subsidized back-up childcare but can provide assistance through UrbanSitter to identify back- up care options. In addition, Cariloop offers additional benefits that include a much broader range of caregiving responsibilities.
The IRS does not explicitly designate caregiving support as a Qualified Medical Expense (QME), so unfortunately, this expense is not eligible for reimbursement under the HCS A .
An eligible child/elder care provider is one who provides care for a qualifying person (under age 13, or a spouse or dependent incapable of self-care) to enable the participant to work or look for work. Eligible providers include babysitters, nannies, daycare centers, and summer day camps, but they cannot be the participa nt's spouse, dependent, or a child under ag e 1 9 .
