Meet Academic Hiring & Operations
The Academic Operations team is one of two dedicated operations teams within the HR Solution Center. Our team manages the full lifecycle of employees — from hire through career changes, to resignation, retirement, and emeritum — for MSU’s academic community.
Our work impacts MSU faculty and academic staff as well as graduate, undergraduate, and professorial students across 17 degree-granting colleges, including the countless departments and schools within each college. We work in close partnership with the Provost's Office and the Office for Faculty and Academic Staff Affairs to ensure academic processes run smoothly.
We support academic excellence at MSU by overseeing seven review processes for faculty and academic staff, ensuring timely reappointments and promotions. Additionally, we manage the annual no-pay mass update process for MSU’s no-pay faculty — a group that currently includes approximately 12,000 individuals. Each year, this process involves 3,000–4,000 actions, reflecting the scale and complexity of our work.
Our team includes seven dedicated professionals. Two focus on tenure and continuing processes, while five handle fixed-term, graduate assistant, undergraduate, and professorial processes. With this work, we support MSU’s academic workforce with accuracy, care, and efficiency, underpinning the university’s mission of teaching, research, and outreach.
