Certificate Programs
HRD offers several certificate programs each semester. Each program covers a body of knowledge on a specific topic.
Essentials of Financial Administration at MSU
This series addresses MSU financial records processing and application of financial information. It provides participants with key information and resources applicable in their current or prospective jobs. To receive the certificate, participants must attend four sessions in an academic year. Required courses: MSU Accounting Procedures and MSU Payroll Practices and Procedures. In case that the MSU Payroll class is not offered during an academic year, another class may be substituted. Participants select two additional courses. more
Excellence in Customer Service
This certificate series addresses key skills necessary to provide excellent service to internal or external customers. In half-day sessions participants will learn what outstanding customer service looks like in their organization, how to identify customer needs, how to listen effectively to the customer, and how to deal with difficult customers in challenging situations. To receive the certificate, participants must attend four sessions. more
Excellence in Writing Workshop
This three-day workshop addresses key elements of professional writing applicable in any organization or work role. It covers skills necessary to express written ideas clearly, convincingly, and effectively in order to communicate the writer’s intent to the reader. more
Excellence Training in Competencies for CTs
This eight-part program, combined with an individual development component, addresses several core competency areas for clerical-technical staff. To receive the certificate, participants must complete all eight sessions and an individual development activity. more
Foundations of Effective Business Communications
This four-session series offers participants skill enhancement in written, verbal, and face-to-face communication skills. Participants will build key communication competencies essential for any employee, regardless of level or type of work. A broad selection of courses allows participants to tailor the series to meet their specific needs. It is recommended that participants complete the series in one academic year. To receive the certificate, participants must complete four sessions in at least two focus areas. more
Foundations of Medical-Technical Communication at MSU
This four-module series is designed for MSU staff who wish to build their medical-technical communication skills and enhance their career opportunities at MSU. The series provides foundational medical vocabulary knowledge and introduces participants to the basics of medical coding and transcription. To receive a certificate, participants must attend all four sessions. more
Foundations of Student Employee Supervision
This three-module series is designed for MSU staff who wish to enhance their skills in supervising and leading student employees. The series focuses on skill building and understanding the unique needs and challenges inherent in overseeing the work of student employees. more
Integrated Marketing Communication Planning the MSU Way
This certificate series is designed for MSU communicators - professionals responsible for developing and communicating their units' communication strategies with internal and external audiences It consists of five sessions that will take the participants through the process of building their own marketing communication plans. more
Taking Charge of the Front Desk
This certificate series is not being offered during this academic year. Please see Excellence Training In Competencies for CT's above as an alternative learning opportunity.
This six-module series is designed for employees in front-desk or first-contact positions. It focuses on skill building in the areas of self-directed leadership, positive attitude reinforcement, front-desk communication skills, multi-tasking, customer care, and personal safety. To receive a certificate participants must attend all six sessions. more
