How You can Help
“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” - Vincent Van Gogh
Soaring health care costs are undeniably a large and complex challenge for Michigan State University. In fact, it’s such a big challenge that it can be hard to believe that the actions of a single individual can make a difference. But in reality, every benefits-eligible person at Michigan State University can, and should, play a significant role in helping MSU manage the growth of health care costs.
Faculty, staff and retirees can all play a significant role by:
- Committing to making healthy lifestyle choices every day
- Working with your health care provider to minimize the impact on your health of any chronic conditions you may have
- Asking questions about whether care recommendations you receive are evidence-based and the strength of that evidence
- Reviewing your medical statements to make sure your insurance is only billed for services you have actually received
- Choosing lower-cost generic medications whenever possible
- Understanding your health care options and using your benefits wisely
Your personal commitment to these actions cannot solve the whole problem, but they CAN make a difference. The savings will be substantial and will add up quickly if all faculty, staff and retirees do our part. At right and below is additional information to help you succeed in becoming a part of the solution to the health care challenge at MSU.
