Support Staff Policy & Procedure for Reduction in Hours - Involuntary

Policy

Applies to: All regular employees
Involuntary reductions in an employee's work hours may be made. When this is necessary, the same methodology as outlined in the Policy and Procedure for layoff - reduction in force is followed.

Procedure

Department: Contacts MSU Human Resources Staffing Services to discuss the reduction in hours plan prior to notifying the employee(s).  After receiving approval, processes a Change of Status form in EBS and makes a note in the Comments section of the form that this action is an involuntary hours reduction.

Employee: Visits MSU Human Resources Staffing Services to review reassignment possibilities and MSU Human Resources Benefits to discuss the effects on benefit plans.

MSU Human Resources Staffing Services: Reviews position vacancies and refers eligible employees for reassignment, if appropriate (VARIES: 1585, 999, and CTU. 1585 and 999 employees desiring to continue on full-time status may elect to "bump" employees with less seniority. CTU employees will be bypassed into a vacant full-time position).
