Support Staff Policy & Procedure for Perfomance Reviews

Policy

Applies to: University support staff

Employees shall receive a performance review using the Performance Development Program (PDP) prior to the completion of the probationary period and thereafter, at least on an annual basis. Departments have the option of developing an alternative performance review program.

Procedure

MSU Human Resources Employee Records: Performance Development Program (PDP) forms are distributed to departments prior to the completion of the probationary period and on an annual basis. Depending on the bargaining unit, an Interim Evaluation form may be sent to the department when an employee changes bargaining units. Performance reviews are normally scheduled on an employee's anniversary date. However, alternate schedules may be approved by MSU Human Resources Staffing Services or Employee Records.

Supervisor/employee:
The immediate supervisor is responsible for following performance review guidelines including timely and thoughtful completion of performance reviews. Supervisors are encouraged to hold periodic feedback meetings with employees during the evaluation year.

For more information on performance appraisal guidelines, see the Performance Development Program Guide (in pdf format), or call MSU Human Resources Staffing Services.

Employee/department: Upon completion of the performance review, the employee, supervisor and department head should sign the form. The original form must be sent to MSU Human Resources Employee Records. Distribute copies of the completed review form to the employee and the supervisor.
