Support Staff Policy & Procedure for Special Merit Increases - Lump Sum & Base

Policy

In cases of exceptional, meritorious performance, units have the option of awarding special merit increases to individual or groups of employees in the CTU, APSA, APA, and non-union employee groups.

These special merit increases may be in the form of lump sum payments, or may be added to an employee's base salary. Because these special increases should recognize highly exceptional performance, the number of increases awarded in each unit should be relatively small and should not occur more than one time per year for an individual employee.

Amounts of these special increases should generally be less than or equal to 5% of an employee's salary. Units provide funding for all special merit increases.

Procedure

Department: Unit administrators complete a Pay Change and Cost Redistribution request in the EBS Portal.

The workflow approvers review the request for increase and evaluates it in terms of merit and pay equity. If approved it moves through workflow MSU Human Resources Staffing Services.

MSU Human Resources Staffing Services: Reviews and approves special merit increases and processes them.
