2010-10-25 Open Enrollment for Flexible Spending Accounts Starts Today!
We are pleased to announce that the annual Open Enrollment period for Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) has begun. Regular full-time and part-time faculty, executive management, academic and support staff are eligible to enroll in two types of FSA plans including a Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) and/or a Dependent Care Spending Account (DCSA).
Eligible individuals can enroll online between October 25, 2010 and Nov. 8, 2010 for the plan year beginning Jan. 1, 2011. For details, check out the FSA page and guide at: http://www.hr.msu.edu/fsa.
Please note that there have been some changes to what the IRS considers to be eligible HCSA expenditures. Because of these changes, many Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications that were previously eligible as HCSA expenditures are no longer eligible unless you have a doctor’s prescription for these medications. Please study the information about eligible and ineligible expenses in your FSA Open Enrollment Guide carefully as these changes may impact how much money you want to withhold from your paycheck to fund your HCSA.
To complete FSA Open Enrollment, please click eHR Login and log in. Once you are logged in, choose the Benefits Enrollments and Information link followed by the Benefits Enrollment/Changes link. Click on the FSA Open Enrollment link and then on the next page again choose the Flexible Spending Account Open Enrollment Link. A Flexible Spending Account is a cost effective way to pay for medical, dental, vision and dependent care expenses on a tax-free basis.
A special note to current enrollees — please keep your current HCSA debit card — you will use the same card in 2011. Additional cards may be ordered from Meritain Health at a cost of $5 per card.
