About Human Resource Development

Mission Statement

Human Resource Development (HRD) is a division of Human Resources. HRD provides training, development, organizational effectiveness consulting, and other services:

  • To help individual employees meet their educational and professional development goals and needs,
  • To assist units in achieving their organizational capacity, and
  • To identify, and facilitate the meeting of, institutional training and development needs.

To meet its mission HRD offers approximately 180 catalog classes each academic year on a wide range of topics. HRD also partners with individual departments in the development of customized programs to meet specific needs, and collaborates with other training and development units in the design and offering of programs.  HRD administers the Educational Assistance benefit for employees taking non-credit and/or college courses and administers the processing of Course Fee Courtesy benefit for support staff.

HRD Catalog Classes

Each year HRD offers approximately 180 catalog classes to meet the training and development needs of the MSU support staff community. Ideas for these classes come from a variety of sources. Needs assessments, conducted every other year, help identify  staff professional development needs. The results of these assessments guide the development of the catalog class schedule. Additionally, literature reviews and web searches identify timely and important topics to be developed into classes. Ideas for classes are always welcome.  Contact Edita Herbstova with input on new HRD class topics.

Departmental Programming

Contact Edita Herbstova or Dawn Hecker to discuss your departmental programming needs. HRD catalog classes can be brought to departments or customized programs can be designed to meet specific needs.
