University-wide opportunities
Teaching
• Faculty development in the Office of the Provost can provide print and video resource materials on teaching strategies. Individual consultations can be arranged to diagnose problems and create solutions, utilizing on-campus expertise in instructional strategies. Limited, ad hoc funding is available for specific projects. • Faculty development workshops on active learning, offered throughout each semester
• “Lilly’s and friends” brown-bag discussion group on effective teaching
• Lilly fellowship program for junior faculty (not intended as a remedial program)
• Faculty facility for creative computing for assistance with developing computer-based instructional materials (5-4500 ext. 185)
• College units devoted to supporting teaching and learning
• The writing center can provide assistance with instruction of writing. The center sponsors a faculty writing project each summer to help faculty develop writing and instructional skills
• The learning resource center can provide consultation on issues related to student learning
Research
• All-university research initiation grants provide support for beginning new research projects that can attract additional funding for continuation.
Outreach
• The Meet Michigan program introduces faculty and academic staff to outreach activities across the state. Offered twice each year, this program is an introduction to the programs and opportunities related to outreach at the university.
