INTRCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS - DIRECTOR

FISHERIES AND WILDLIFE - RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

DUTIES:  Research Associate, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, with Michigan State University and the Institute for Fisheries Research (Michigan Department of Natural Resources) seek a post-doctoral researcher to assist the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in developing an initial national assessment of the status of fish habitats throughout the United States.  Primary responsibilities include:  1. Working with a multidisciplinary team to support development of a science-based assessment strategy for lakes and reservoirs that reflects current ecological understanding of the influence of landscape-scale factors on fish habitat and production in lentic systems;  2. developing scientifically sound impairment assessment methods using sophisticated statistical analyses; 3. refining river fish habitat health assessment based on a existing national database in support of needs of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP); 4. writing final reports and peer reviewed publications; and 5. interacting with stakeholders.  This is a one-year position, with extension contingent on future funding and performance.  For more information about this position, please visit our website at http://www.fw.msu.edu

QUALIFICATIONS:  PhD in aquatic ecology, landscape ecology, fisheries management, or related field; experience using ARC GIS; familiarity in using multivariate, parametric, and nonparametric statistical analysis techniques. Doctorate or other terminal degree. Applicants must have quantitative fisheries or landscape ecological research experience and a strong background in the use of multivariate, parametric, or nonparametric statistical analyses and modeling using ARC GIS. Knowledge of environmental impairment assessment methods is preferred. The job will involve travel and coordination among various stakeholders. Applicants should be able to work independently and in collaboration with researchers; publish findings in peer-reviewed journals; and write proposals and reports.

KELLOGG BIOLOGICAL STAT - SPECIALIST

DUTIES:  The position will focus on disseminating knowledge generated by LTER research on the ecology and sustainability of row-crop production systems in the larger agricultural landscape.  Programming will target a variety of audiences, including Extension Educators, K-12 teachers, agricultural producers, undergraduates, and the general public.  Will develop and deliver educational and outreach programs.  Will work closely with MSU faculty and staff involved in existing education/outreach activities at KBS, particularly the Asst. FISHERIES AND WILDLIFE - RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

DUTIES:  The Center for Advancing Microbial Risk Assessment (CAMRA; a $10 million Cooperative Center recently funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Homeland Security) at Michigan State University invites applications for post-doctoral fellowships working in microbial risk-related sciences. The Center's mission is to fill critical gaps in microbial risk assessment frameworks needed to support the security objectives of EPA and DHS. More specifically it aims to: i) improve our ability to measure exposure to biological agents of concerns in drinking water and indoor air, ii) develop a methodology that links models of environmental exposure and models of disease process to help with early detection outbreaks and control efforts, iii) produce a reference set of information on the does and subsequent response for specific bioterrorist agents, iv) identify research strategies and risk communication priorities that can improve how society manages bioterrorism risk, and v) develop educational programs, online learning tools,  and workshops to increase knowledge about microbial risk assessment.  Post-doctoral fellows will be supported for two years minimum plus benefits and will be matched with CAMRA host faculty working on projects related to priority research areas. The hired post-doc will also assist the co-directors in coordination of CAMRA administrative activities, including integrating the efforts of 7 participating universities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Doctorate or other terminal degree. Post-doctoral applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field.

DUTIES:  Serve as Assistant Director of Admissions, providing leadership for the undergraduate admissions process (50%). DUTIES:  Research Associate in Patient Health Care Decision Making.  Outstanding candidates interested in applied judgment/decision research, message framing and health communication, patient decision support - decision aids, or related fields are invited to apply. An excellent opportunity for researchers interested in both laboratory and applied community-based research; this will be the first position in an emerging social science research lab with dedicated ties to both settings.  This position will be jointly based in an MSU-affiliated specialty practice and clinical research center in Grand Rapids, MI, and in an experimental social psychology lab at MSU in East Lansing, MI.   The research associate will work under the supervision of Rich Martin, M.D., MA. (Department of Medicine, Rheumatology) and Joseph Cesario, Ph.D. (Department of Psychology).   The associate will have the opportunity to:  1) participate in on-going clinic-based research, translational research projects, and experimental psychology laboratory-based research; 2) collaborate with clinicians developing new collaborative research examining basic processes of patient decision making in rheumatoid arthritis; and 3) initiate and conduct their own research with full access to the resources of both community providers and a major university. 4)  If desired, there will be the opportunity to interface with multicenter biologic therapy clinical trials.  Specific responsibilities relate to the development and testing of patient decision support tools, including: 1) conducting interviews to assess patient preferences and perceived needs to support medication decision making/adherence; 2) qualitative analysis of physician-patient encounter transcripts; 3) designing and experimentally testing the effectiveness of various decision support tools, for both simulated and actual medical decisions; and  4) secondary analyses of cross-sectional survey and clinical trial data of rheumatoid arthritis patients.  Approximately 25% time will be available to initiate research of personal interest, with full access to all available resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph.D. in Psychology (Health, Social, Personality, Cognitive) or related field such as Health Communication, Behavioral Economics, Sociology.   Evidence of research methodology, statistical, and writing skills.   Strong communication and planning skills will be needed to engage with the team of clinicians and for growing collaborative relationships between clinicians, social scientists, and health plans.
