Reduction in Hours - Involuntary

Policy

Applies to: All regular employees

Involuntary reductions in an employee's work hours may be made. When this is necessary, the same methodology as outlined in the Policy and Procedure for layoff - reduction in force is followed.

Procedure

Department: Contacts MSU Human Resources Staffing Services to discuss the reduction in hours plan prior to notifying the employee(s). After receiving approval, prepares Personnel Action Notice (PAN) form and sends to MSU Human Resources Employee Records.

Employee: Visits MSU Human Resources Staffing Services to review reassignment possibilities and MSU Human Resources Benefits to discuss the effects on benefit plans.

MSU Human Resources Staffing Services: Reviews position vacancies and refers eligible employees for reassignment, if appropriate (VARIES: 1585, 999, and CTU. 1585 and 999 employees desiring to continue on full-time status may elect to "bump" employees with less seniority. CTU employees will be bypassed into a vacant full-time position).

Refer questions to: MSU Human Resources Staffing Services (telephone 517-353-3720, e-mail).
