A Guide for Employees and Supervisors Considering Telecommuting
Introduction
Human Resources is pleased to provide the following Guidebook for employees and supervisors who are considering telecommuting as a work place option.
While Michigan State University does not have a formal policy or procedure regarding the practice of telecommuting, we believe this Guidebook will provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about telecommuting. In it you will find suggestions as to the types of jobs that most easily lend themselves to telecommuting, and also considerations for providing a safe and productive work environment in the home or other alternative work site.
At the end of the Guidebook, you will find an Agreement form that is designed to help employees and supervisors define the terms and conditions of a telecommuting work arrangement. Please note that the use of the Agreement form is voluntary and optional and does not need to be submitted to Human Resources for approval. Also at the end of the document you will find a "Checklist for the Home Office," designed to ensure the home office provides an ergonomically correct and safe workspace.
If you have questions or comments about telecommuting or the Guidebook, please contact Roxann Graham at Human Resources Staffing Services at 884-0115.
