Salary increases for faculty should reflect an individual's contribution to the success of the NSCL in particular and of MSU in general. Factors which influence the increase, in addition to performance, include: relative current salary, changes in performance or responsibility over the past year and market forces.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the NSCL's essential need of maintaining a position of international leadership in science and technology.
Faculty should play a leadership role in conducting or initiating high-quality research (as judged by peer reviews, presentation of invited talks and publications in high quality journals), in seeking out new funding opportunities, and in writing grant proposals.
Other important faculty raise criteria are support of laboratory operations, initiation of new collaborations, and development of new instrumentation or equipment upgrades.
Apart from leadership in research, additional raise criteria can be based on performance in teaching, service, and the execution of administrative responsibilities as applicable.
