Health Programs Faculty are obligated to participate in the provision of institutional services at the Department and College levels, including committee service, administrative service (when appropriate) and student advising.
Health Programs Faculty participate in the establishment and functioning of a governance system at department, and college levels in accordance with the Bylaws of the Colleges and the process of academic governance, thus ensuring academic freedom and the promotion of the goals of the institution. It should be noted that individuals appointed under this system could also participate in the academic governance activities of the University, but could only be appointed or elected to those positions which are currently available to fixed term faculty members, due to the University by-laws that state that most participation in University Committee structures is the prerogative of tenure system faculty members.
Health Programs Faculty may contribute to the academic management of Departments, Units and/or the Colleges by recommending and in some cases developing policy related to faculty affairs, student affairs, academic records, and academic fiscal management. This category also includes usual and expected academic activity such as student advising and curriculum development. A more detailed description of the usual and expected responsibilities of faculty members of the University is contained in the MSU Faculty Handbook sections on teaching, research, service and academic governance. The MSU Faculty Rights and Responsibilities document would also obtain for these faculty members, excluding the section on tenure.
