Alternative Options for Uninsured Students

We understand the premium cost for students’ health related expenses can be expensive.  Because of this, we would like to offer the following resources for those students with limited income.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the MSU Benefits Office at (517) 353-4434, or (800) 353-4434.

Ingham Health Plan:

·         If you reside in Ingham County and have no other health insurance coverage, you may be eligible for assistance through the Ingham Health Plan.  Your total household income must be less than 250 percent of the US-DHHS poverty guidelines in order to be eligible.  There is no cost to enroll in this program.  Information regarding this plan is available at http://www.communityhealthplans.org/.  Under the “Health Plans” tab, choose Ingham Health Plan.

·         You must enroll in person.  At the time you enroll, you must provide proof of residency (i.e. copy of a recent utility bill, an official MSU document which has your address, etc.) and proof of income (i.e. copy of your last pay stub).  The enrollment location and walk-in hours are provided below.

·         If you are currently eligible for financial aid for school, financial aid may be available to help you with the cost of paying the premiums for coverage under Chickering Student Insurance.  Students should contact Ann Graves in the Financial Aid Office at (517) 353-5940 to discuss this further.
