Marriage
- Complete your life event changes online to sign up for the Health Plan Waiver or to add your new spouse and/or spouse's dependent children to your benefit coverage within 31 days of the marriage. Remember to provide MSU Human Resources Benefits with a copy of your marriage certificate and/or a copy of your spouse's dependent(s) birth certificate(s).
- Change your Beneficiary Designation for your Life\Accident Insurance policies.
- Contact your retirement investment sponsors directly to change your retirement plan beneficiary designation.
- If your address or home phone number change, you can update your home address related information on the web through the Faculty/Staff/Retiree Address System. If you need assistance changing your home information online, for Support Staff contact Human Resources Employee Records at (517) 353-4430 or for Faculty\Academic Staff contact Academic Human Resources at (517) 355-1526.
- If you are changing your name, provide a copy of your new social security card to your supervisor so a revised PAN or AIN form can be processed. If you are faculty or academic staff, you need to send a copy of your Social Security card with your new name on it to Academic Human Resources, room 312 Administration Building. To obtain a new Social Security card, take appropriate documentation (marriage license, court documents) to the nearest Social Security office.
- Contact Family Resource Center (FRC) or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for information on services that are available for helping your children adjust to remarriage.
Legal Separation or Divorce
- Complete your life event changes online to change your marital status, delete a spouse or dependent(s) from your benefit coverage or sign up for benefits due to loss of previous coverage. Remember to provide MSU Human Resources Benefits with a copy of your official legal/court documents.
- Change your Beneficiary Designation for your Life\Accident Insurance policies.
- Contact your retirement investment sponsors directly to change your retirement plan beneficiary designation.
- Contact Family Resource Center (FRC) or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for information on services that are available for coping with divorce.
