SOC SCI DEAN - SPECIALIST-CUR DEV

DUTIES: Develop, plan and coordinate all aspects of the College of Social Science's Domestic Internship Program and academic service learning program. Develop student learning outcome goals and assessment strategies for college domestic internship and service learning programs. Develop collaborative relationships with host institutions, potential stakeholders, and academic units to place and evaluate students engaged in domestic internships and service learning. Expand and enhance College of Social Science student engagement in domestic internships and service learning. Coordinate College of Social Science operations with appropriate MSU partners and stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters in Student Affairs, Social Science, Counseling, or related. Qualifications other than degree: Well prepared candidates will have at least five years of full-time experience in internship coordination, academic advising, counseling, or another related area. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential; technical skills in word-processing, database management, spreadsheets, and web forms; ability to work closely with students, faculty, academic advisors, alumni and other academic support staff units within MSU, as well as external contacts for domestic internship placement. Position may require some travel.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Computational Science (CS, Physics, Chemistry...). DUTIES: Work within an active highly productive research group studying the intracellular signals that regulate cancer metastasis and/or mucosal healing in the laboratory of Marc D. Basson, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of Surgery at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine. Depending upon the individual's interests and skills, research studies may focus primarily on in vitro cell culture, small animal models of cancer and mucosal injury, or a combination of both. Techniques used will include Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, siRNA and plasmid transfection, construction of point-mutated and chimeric genetic constructs, and immunofluorescent staining and confocal imaging. Small animal surgical models in mice and rats involve transplantable tumors, intestinal anastomoses, and knockout mice. In addition, human tissue samples will be procured from surgical specimens under IRB-approved protocols and used to confirm results from in vitro and animal studies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate or other terminal degree. Other degree requirements: PhD in a biological science or relate field. Qualifications other than degree: Highly motivated productive individual with ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team. Experience in mammalian cell culture, protein and molecular biological techniques and/or experience in small animal surgical procedures. Academic first author publications.
